Always moving forward: Tungate is making breakthrough advancements using LED curing

Tungate has reached another milestone in its ongoing pursuit of innovation — integrating LED curing into our manufacturing process. This cutting-edge technology brings substantial benefits, including reduced energy costs, enhanced operational performance, and improved sustainability.

The decision to adopt LED curing technology in our flexographic (Flexo) operations was not taken lightly. It followed extensive research and development to ensure the system could deliver faster run speeds and better ink adhesion across multiple substrates.

Crucially, the new LED curing system also incorporates an ink capable of supporting both surface and reverse (shrink sleeve) printing. This advancement minimises colour shift over time and improves print quality across a wide range of materials, such as shrink sleeves, pouches, and sachets.

To support this transition, Tungate has also invested in a high-precision ink dispensing system. This automates the ink-mixing process, provides greater control over ink use, and ensures accurate colour management. It significantly reduces waste and the amount of ink returned to storage — decreasing the need for virgin inks and ultimately lowering operational costs.

This upgrade reflects Tungate’s ongoing commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility. By investing in energy-efficient technology like LED curing, we continue to reduce our carbon footprint and strengthen our position as a sustainable leader in the industry.
