This summer, Tungate have supported Loughborough University and Amnesty International, in sponsoring one of the cars involved in the annual “Dash to Dubrovnik” fundraising event.
A total of 30 cars were involved in loose convoy, departing the UK over a 2-day period. Each crew had a limit of £500 to spend on the vehicle. In the case of Tungate’s sponsored car (a 2007 Saab 93 Convertible), the team comprised Tungate Sales Director’s son Adam Partlett, James Howling and George Ramsay, who are all recent graduates from Loughborough University. The team were fortunate in that James Howling, a graduate in Aero Engineering and keen classic car enthusiast, was able to spend the early part of this year working on the vehicle to ensure it was in optimum condition for the event. This paid off with a relatively trouble-free journey covering some 4000 miles and 14 countries including Belgium, Switzerland, Slovenia, Holland, Hungary and Slovakia (many of which will sound vaguely familiar to England’s long suffering football fans ! ) and ending up in Dubrovnik on the Croatian Riviera.
In total the event, lasting for around 2 weeks, raised £38,000 for Amnesty International as well as providing a well-earned vacation for nearly 100 mentally exhausted Loughborough students (now graduates). Tungate’s Sales Director Gareth Partlett commented: “We understandably get consumed by the challenges we face in our day to day working lives. However, these do seem somewhat trivial compared to the millions of people around the world suffering homelessness, persecution, and human rights abuses. Hopefully, the efforts of these intrepid graduates will make a meaningful contribution to improving these peoples’ lives in the months and years to come.”
