Tungate invest in UK first LED print technology to satisfy rapidly growing sustainable flexible packaging markets!

In a UK first, following extensive evaluation and trials, The Tungate Group has installed a BOBST Master M5 LED UV Flexo press at it’s Staffordshire headquarters. This major investment compliments their existing renowned offset and HD flexo capability. It also provides significant additional capacity to meet the demands of the rapidly growing sustainable flexible packaging sectors, especially paper faced products where Tungate is already acknowledged as the supplier of choice for UK retailers and brandholders alike, with several new groundbreaking material options becoming available during 2024.

Tungate’s Managing Director Kevin Paszek commented, “the increasing demand for sustainable flexible packaging has presented us with operational challenges such as proliferation of material specifications, reducing volumes per print design, and speed to market. This latest investment significantly enhances our ability to meet these challenges and market needs, with design changeover times akin to digital, whilst also offering superior print quality and cost effectiveness, particularly on medium run lengths.  With this technology we are raising the bar environmentally with dramatic reductions in consumables waste, and energy consumption”.

The Bobst Master M5 has also been equipped with significant in-line drying power on it’s first and last units. Tungate’s Sales Director Gareth Partlett was effusive on this , “we know that water based barrier and sealer coatings will come to dominate the market in the coming years. This press gives us the ability to rapidly speed up developments in the related coatings technology and provide the market with products which are not only genuinely recyclable, but also fit for purpose in terms of barrier properties and seal integrity”.
